It might be confusing that some sensors are labelled with "analog". This page explains differences between analog sensors and digital sensors.

Analog signals are continuous in nature
e.g. sound
Digital signals are discrete
e.g. digital pictures (stored in pixels with RGB code, become blurry if you zoom in. In comparison, objects in the reality are always vivid, they send analog signals)
